In a remarkable tribute, an incredible 250-strong team from a small village in Belgium has constructed an awe-inspiring, larger-than-life float of LeBron James that has taken the country by storm!
This stunning likeness of LeBron was the highlight of Belgium’s annual Flower Parade, which occurs every second Sunday of September in the village of Loenhout. Known as the country’s largest flower parade, it features 32 house-high floats, meticulously crafted and decorated with millions of dahlia flowers. Since its inception in 1952, this event—recognized as national intangible cultural heritage—has attracted over 15,000 visitors each year.
The LeBron James float, produced by the neighbourhood “Marsweg*Neerven,” was not only a crowd favorite but also an extraordinary feat of craftsmanship. Measuring an impressive 11.4 meters high, 5 meters wide, and 14 meters long, it is the tallest float ever created in the history of the parade and the neighbourhood’s participation. The float was adorned with over 200,000 fresh dahlias, and the decoration process, carried out by a dedicated team of 200 volunteers, was completed in just 48 hours.
The towering float, featuring an unmistakable likeness of LeBron James, was pushed manually by 11 people—a challenging task, given that over 3 tons of counterweight were needed to keep it balanced as it moved through the streets. This float won gold in the competition, claiming the top prize for its design and execution.
While LeBron is known for wearing the iconic number 23, the float in Belgium featured the number 24 as a prediction that they would win this years parade.
